Social and emotional themes are essential components to literature, TV, and film. These important topics present themselves in our media and literature constantly, and they often serve as a starting point to critical and much-needed dialogue that encourages our children and students to reflect on themselves and the world around them.
Many of our favorite TV shows, films, and pieces of literature deal with important social-emotional issues that are relevant to life today. For instance, The Disney film Inside Out explores themes of social awareness, integrity, teamwork, and self-regulation. In another example, we find that the popular children’s novel The Dark by Lemony Snicket explores other important themes such as self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and empathy.
