Since she was 8, Dee Lavender has been traveling all over the Continental U.S, Germany, Switzerland and Africa – singing, dancing, speaking, performing in musical theater, and eventually teaching as a workshop/master class clinician. Classically trained and raised in the south, Dee pulls from these different points of reference to create a versatile sound that is uniquely her own. She has been professionally teaching individual/group voice, piano, guitar and percussion lessons for over 15 years through her own artist development company. She is a capable and dedicated music educator/choir director for over 12 years and as such, she has taught music and art in several public (Title I) and charter K-12 schools along the east coast.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dee follows in the footsteps of her teachers, choir directors, artistic directors, and leadership program staff. She was inspired to further her education to be able to better serve youth and their families and is currently completing her final year of graduate school to be a licensed certified Intercultural Counselor with a concentration in serving youth and young adults facing trauma, loss, and unresolved spiritual and/or identity issues.
Why I Move This World: I believe that the only way positive change will come is through inspiration and strategic, intentional action. It is to this end that I hope to inspire, empower, educate and incite positive change and internal healing in those I have been and will be blessed to cross paths with.
