About the Workshop: At this event, visitors will see first hand how Metro Nashville Public Schools have prioritized social emotional learning in order to empower students and teachers. They will learn why social emotional learning is essential for all students, how to best evaluate and select SEL programming, how to prepare teachers to address social and emotional skill development and best practices for program implementation. Participants will get to see Move This World, one of MNPS’s social emotional learning programs in action. Visitors will also have time to engage and collaborate with fellow administrators to discuss challenges and brainstorm ideas for next steps with one another.

Visitors will hear from:

  • Mary Crnobori, Trauma Informed Coordinator, Metro Nashville Public Schools
  • Waverly Belmont teachers using Move This World and other SEL initiatives
  • Susan Purcell-Orleck, SEL Facilitator, Meigs Academic Magnet Middle

About the District: Metro Nashville Public Schools is a fast-growing urban school system in Nashville, Tennessee.  More than 82,000 students are currently enrolled in over 150 schools. MNPS is dedicated to ensuring that every student becomes a life-long learner prepared for success in college, career and life. 

About the Schools: Waverly Belmont Elementary School is a K-4 elementary school in the Metro Nashville Public School District. For the 2017-2018 school year, Waverly Belmont has two areas of focus: to provide strong, individualized instruction to every student and to implement a school wide behavior model to support the social and emotional needs of every student. Waverly Belmont is also one of two technology demonstration schools in the MNPS district. 

Meigs Academic Magnet School is a 5-8 middle school school in Metro Nashville Public Schools. Meigs Middle Magnet School provides a rigorous liberal arts curriculum that encourages students to perform at high standards of academic and social development. Meigs is dedicated addressing the needs of both the whole child and whole teacher.

What is Move This World?

Move This World (MTW) is a social emotional learning program that provides PreK-12 educators and students with digital tools to strengthen their social emotional wellbeing in order to create healthy environments where effective teaching and learning can occur. Through evidence-based, developmentally appropriate digital tools, Move This World ritualizes a daily practice of identifying, expressing, and managing emotions.
