A shipwreck has polluted Megan the Mermaid’s reef, making it hard for Megan to see her family. It can make us feel sad or frustrated when we can’t see people we love, but we can communicate and work together to find new ways to feel connected. In this episode of The Emotion Motion Podcast, Megan shares about her Grammers (that’s Mermaid for Grandparents!) and explores ways to stay connected with her Grammers.

Deep Dive Questions for Children and their Grown Ups
It’s always helpful to talk about important topics from each episode with your child. Here are some Deep Dive Questions to help children and their grown ups debrief after listening to this week’s episode.
- Who is someone that you miss that you wish you could visit right now? What do you love to do with that person?
- How does it feel when you take deep breaths, like we did during this episode? What are some feelings that you may have that deep breathing could help you with?
- How does it feel to Count to 10? Think about a time from today or this week that you could have used Count to 10. How do you think it might have helped you?
Here’s What We Practiced This Week
The Sea Lettuce Dance: Sometimes it helps to get up and move your body when you have big feelings. Whether you try The Sea Lettuce Dance or any type of dance, taking a short dance break can bring some joy to your day.
Deep Breathing: We can stop any time we need to practice deep breathing. We breathe in for a count of 4, and out for a count of 4 at least three times.
Count to 10, one of the 10 Emogers from Move This World: The 10 Emogers are strategies we can use whenever we feel sad, worried, frustrated, overly excited, or any time we want to focus and calm down. Stop what you’re doing and count to 10 when you need a minute for yourself.
Express Gratitude: Megan the Mermaid writes her Grammers a letter because she misses them so much. Expressing our gratitude for something or someone can help us when we’re feeling sad. Try writing a letter or drawing a picture for someone to let them know why you are grateful for them.
Hello Me Song: We sing the Hello Me song to connect with our friends and family and learn how they are feeling. Listen to episode 2 to hear the Hello Me song, then try singing it with your family!
