Deep Dive Questions for Children and their Grown Ups
It’s always helpful to talk about important topics from each episode with your child. Here are some Deep Dive Questions to help children and their grown ups debrief after listening to this week’s episode.
- Have you ever felt afraid of something? What did you do about it?
- Who are some people in your life that you feel comfortable talking to about your fears? Why do you feel safe to talk to these people?
- What did you notice as you did the Heart to Heart exercise? How did it feel? Did anything surprise you?
Here’s What We Practiced This Week
Heart to Heart: Heart to Heart is a breathing exercise we can use whenever we need to calm down our bodies and our minds. Hold both hands over your heart as you take a deep breath in and a deep breath out. Notice your heartbeat as you breathe.
Hello Me Song: The Hello Me Song is a fun way to greet people in your life! Use the Hello Me song to learn more about how the people around you are feeling.
The Oooh Ahhh Song: This catchy song is a great reminder to use deep breathing whenever we feel big feelings! Whether we feel excited, sad, nervous – no matter what we feel, The Oooh Ahhh song reminds us that we can use deep breathing to slow down.
Breathing Big and Breathing Deep: Take a deep breath in for 4 counts, hold the air in your mouth for an extra second, then slowly let the air out as you exhale for 4 counts. Do this at least three times. On your last breath, breathe in for 4 counts, hold the air in your mouth for 4 seconds, then try to exhale slowly for 10 counts.
Welcome to Krypton: Welcome to Krypton invites us to reflect on what feelings look like in our bodies. Think about a time when you felt calm and relaxed, or brave, or any emotion! Now, imagine if you were a superhero – for example, a calm and relaxed superhero, or a brave superhero – what would that look like on your face and body? Create a superhero pose to show off that emotion! It can feel good to imagine ourselves feeling different emotions so we can understand them better when we feel them during our day.
Here are Some More Ways to Practice & Play at Home
Keep the superhero theme going with the downloadable exercise Draw Your Superhero, inviting your child or student to express their strengths and qualities that make them unique and special. Practice your emotion vocabulary, or Emotional Building Blocks, in a fun Memory game or Go Fish game.
